The tradition of brewing beer in the Pszczyna region dates back to the 15th century.

The right to brew beer in former Pszczyna was one of the more guarded privileges. In addition to princes and nobles, some village heads and innkeepers also held them. Over time, town and noble breweries were established. A beer tax collector - a certain Peter Wachenius - also played an important role in old Pszczyna.

Researchers and students from the University of Silesia and the Pontifical University, with the aim of protecting cultural heritage, brewed, as part of the project "Bio-War" historic craft beer dedicated to the memory of Wachenius.

Inspired by these activities, Łukasz Kozioł – the owner of the Pszczyna brewery - has established cooperation with the university and screated an unusual place spiced with a pinch of the tradition of our ancestors - the Brovar 16 Petrus Wachenius. It is located in the very heart of Pszczyna, in a historic building at Rynek 16.

Nurturing the heritage of the Pszczyna land, with invaluable scientific support, the tradition of beer brewing has been revived, modelled on the historical technology of its production.

The process of manufacturing craft beers in Pszczyna is considerably slow and is mainly based on the work of human hands. Machines and equipment are used to the minimum extent necessary, and their usage requires constant human presence and involvement. Manufacturing takes place at the licensed bar facilities, as it used to.
